During January, US consumer spending on games reached $4.3 billion, a 5% decline year-over-year, according to the latest NPD data.
Software comprised most of the month’s revenue (88%), with game content reaching $3.79 billion in January.
Consumer spending for the month on hardware was flat year-over-year at $393 million.
Among console sales, Sony’s PlayStation 5 was the top-selling platform for both units and dollars. Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch was second across the same categories.
For game sales, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was number one for January, whereas EA’s Dead Space reached second. Madden NFL 23, another EA title, rose to become the third best-selling game for the month.
Accessory spending declined by 14% year-over-year to a total of $165 million during January. The PlayStation 5 DualSense Wireless Controller Midnight Black was the top-selling accessory for the month.
