YouTuber inadvertently outs himself as insider behind Ubisoft leaks

A YouTuber has been exposed as the source of leaks around Ubisoft Forward after replying from the wrong Twitter account.

Ahead of Ubisoft’s presentation last week, a Twitter account under the name ‘The Real Insider’ shared details of the Assassin’s Creed games that were due to be announced.

The same account had previously been used to leak information around the rebooted Saints Row and Metal: Hellsinger, among other titles.

However, the anonymity of the account’s owner – Dan Allen – ended when he replied to a tweet to @TheRealInsider via his @DanAllenGaming account, Eurogamer reports.

Allen had been briefed by Ubisoft on the Assassin’s Creed announcements ahead of the Forward presentation, under the condition that he adhere to the embargo. He then broke that embargo by anonymously sharing the details via his Real Insider account.

The tweet that exposed him and the Real Insider account have since been deleted, as has @DanAllenGaming.

Prior to its deletion, Allen posted an apology via the latter, stating: “I’m sorry to everyone for my actions. I’m ashamed and disappointed in myself.

“I’ll be taking some time to reflect on my poor decisions, which will never occur again. To everyone that has supported me over the years, I’m truely [sic] sorry I let you down.”
