The Last of Us TV show debuts with 4.7m viewers

HBO’s The Last of Us live-action adaptation pulled in 4.7 million US viewers with its first episode.

As reported by Variety, per Nielsen ratings and Warner Bros. Discovery data, the series’ debut was second to Game of Thrones: House of Dragons.

The show’s first episode was also the second-largest HBO viewing premiere within the last 13 years.

“We are thrilled to see fans of the series and game alike experience this iconic story in a new way, and we extend our gratitude to them for helping to make it a success,” said CEO of HBO and HBO Max content Casey Bloys.

Critics lauded the show; some reviews said it surpassed the game.

“The team has done an excellent job breathing life into new characters, creating an engaging and refreshing rendering of a popular genre story,” said Karama Horne for The Wrap.
