The German federal parliament has increased the national budget for the games industry to €70 million.
Unveiled in 2020, the games fund offered government support for up to 50% of developer costs.
Since the program’s launch, game companies have increased by 26% and employment in the industry grew 12% as well.
The governing body said that it increased support by €20 million for 2023 following the sector’s growth.
Looking ahead, the German Games Industry Association predicts that the support initiative will need to provide €100 million annually.
“The provision of this additional games funding sends a powerful signal,” said managing director of game Felix Falk.
“It will enable Germany to continue its pursuit of becoming one of the world’s top locations for game development.”
