Forge of Empires developer InnoGames has announced that it’s laying off 75 members of staff.
The studio announced yesterday that it was “undertaking a comprehensive strategic organisational realignment,” in order to remain competitive, reach more players and work more efficiently on its current portfolio.
InnoGames CEO and co-founder Hendrik Klindworth explained that the games market has evolved “rapidly” in the past year.
“To be able to continue to invest in the future on a scale and with a flexibility that reflects market developments, we need to transform the company to make it more efficient and agile,” he continued.
“In addition to restructuring our central service teams, we will, among other things, optimise the sizes of the development teams so that we can continue to provide each of our core titles with the support it needs to be successful. We will also invest in even more innovative game concepts that will help us reach and entertain new players. The new structure of the company means that we unfortunately have to part with 75 highly valued members of our team.”
Workers laid off will receive severance pay and “the option of switching to a transfer company, from which they will continue to receive 80% of their last salary for six months,” COO and co-founder Michael Zillmer added.
Assistance to find a new position and/or qualifications will also be provided if needed, he continued.
“With this solution we enable everyone to find their bearings in peace and spare the foreign employees from being forced to act at short notice because of their residence permits,” he said.
Based in Hamburg, InnoGames employs over 400 people and is part of Modern Times Group. The company made headlines last year when it published a salary transparency report.
